MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team is set to host RIT for a two-game series at Clearview Arena. The opener will take place on Friday, January 17, with the finale on Saturday, January 18. Both games are scheduled for 3:00 PM puck drops and will be broadcast live on FloHockey with commentary by Adam Gusky and Bob Kennedy.
RECENT FORM
RMU (7-14-3, 1-7-2 #AHA) is riding momentum after securing its first conference victory with a 3-0 shutout of Lindenwood. In game one of that series, RMU battled to a 3-3 tie but claimed the extra point in the standings by winning the shootout, 2-1, with shootout goals from
Lindsey Smolen and
Jersey Phillips. Regulation goals came from Phillips,
Catriona Crarer, and
Janelle Evans.
In game two, the Colonials secured the win behind goals from
Alyssa Rasmuson (her first career goal),
Morgan Giannone, and
Thalia D'Elia, who also added an assist for a two-point effort.
Maggie Hatch recorded her third career shutout with a 30-save performance.
NATIONAL ATTENTION
Sophomore goaltender
Maggie Hatch was recently named to the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) Women's Goalie of the Year Watch List for the second straight year.
- Season Stats: 604 saves, 6 wins (2 shutouts), .925 save percentage.
- Career Highlights: 42 appearances, 15 wins, 1,393 saves, .923 save percentage, 17 games with 30+ saves, and 12 games with 40+ saves.
- Hatch's accolades include being named to the CHA All-Rookie Team (2023-24) and earning three CHA Goaltender of the Week awards and one Goaltender of the Month honor.
SERIES HISTORY
RMU has dominated the all-time series against RIT, holding a 30-14-4 (.667) record. The Colonials have been especially strong at home, going 16-6-2 at Clearview Arena and averaging 3.15 goals per game in the series. Earlier this season, RMU tied RIT 2-2 in the first meeting but secured the shootout win with a goal from
Janelle Evans. In the second game, RIT claimed a 5-1 victory, with RMU's lone goal scored by
Emma Goding.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
RIT (11-10-3, 4-5-1 #AHA) enters the weekend after being swept by No. 11 Penn State. They currently sit in fourth place in the AHA standings.
