ERIE, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team fell in the series finale to Mercyhurst, 6-0. The loss moves the Colonials to an 8-17-3 overall record and 2-10-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
- Mercyhurst opened the scoring seven minutes into the game, taking an early 1-0 lead.
- The Lakers outshot the Colonials 9-7 in the opening 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD
- Mercyhurst scored three goals in a four-minute stretch to extend their lead to 4-0.
- With 20 seconds left in the period, RMU successfully challenged a play, resulting in Mercyhurst's Sydney Pedersen receiving a game misconduct. The Colonials were awarded a five-minute power play.
THIRD PERIOD
- Despite the extended power play opportunity, RMU was unable to convert.
- Mercyhurst's Vanessa Upson scored twice more in the final frame, completing her hat trick and securing the Lakers' 6-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Mercyhurst outshot RMU 34-20 and held the edge in faceoffs, winning 33 of 55 draws.
- Laura Eustace led the Colonials in shots with five, while Catriona Crarer won a team-high seven faceoffs.
- Allyson Hebert blocked three shots, continuing her strong defensive performance this season.
- In net, Maggie Hatch made 18 saves in the first 35 minutes, while Lucy Phillips stepped in for the final 25 minutes, stopping 10 shots.
UP NEXT
The Colonials will close out their regular season with six straight home games at Clearview Arena. RMU will host Penn State for a two-game series, starting on Friday, January 31 at 3:00 PM and concluding on Saturday, February 1 at 3:00 PM.
