Colonials Pick up Third Straight Win by Defeating Detroit Mercy, 77-64

Four Colonials score in double digits; Nsabua records season-high 19 points

DETROIT, Mi. – RMU women's basketball pushed their win streak to three games as the Colonials defeated Detroit Mercy, 77-64. RMU has now improved to 8-12 this season and have a 4-7 record in Horizon League action.

FIRST QUARTER
  • Each team was ready to score relentlessly as the Colonials shot 50 percent from the field while the Titans shot 63 percent.
  • Raissa Nsabua and Mya Murray guided RMU in the quarter as that dup combined for 15 points in the stanza.
  • Detroit Mercy kept their foot on the gas offensively as the Titans scored 13 out of the final 19 points of the frame.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Colonials looked to flip the script and did just that by starting the second stanza on a 10-0 scoring and didn't allow a point in the first five minutes of the quarter.
  • RMU's defense was the stoutest they've been all game to start this frame as they forced the Titans to go on a 0-7 stretch from the field and forced three Detroit Mercy turnovers.
  • Detroit Mercy finished the first half with the momentum as Emaia Brown scored on a buzzer-beating layup to give the Titans a two-point lead heading into the break.
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Colonials came out of the gate ready to score as they shot a game-high 60 percent from the field in this quarter.
  • RMU found success from beyond the arc in the quarter as Isys Grady, Micah O'Dell, and Jennica Suggs each hit a three-pointer.
  • RMU's defense stayed true to themselves as they continued to shut down Detroit Mercy from beyond the arc and allowed the Titans to make just four attempts from the free-throw line. The Colonials finished the quarter with a 55-50 lead thanks to a Noa Givon made layup with time winding down.
 FOURTH QUARTER
  • RMU wreaked havoc from inside the paint in this frame as the Colonials had eight points from the interior while the Titans had just two.
  • The Colonials cashed in from the free-throw line with RMU making 11 free throws on 12 attempts.
  • RMU controlled the glass when it came to rebounding all game long as the Colonials outrebounded Detroit Mercy 12-7 in this quarter. In total, RMU pulled down 42 boards while the Titans had just 26 rebounds.

ROAD WARRIORS
This is the first time since the 2021 campaign in which the Colonials have won at least three conference games on the road. Besides 2021, this is the only other instance in the Horizon League where a Colonials team has won three games in a row. While being on the road, this marks the first time this season where RMU has scored at least 70 points in back to back games.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Senior guard Raissa Nsabua led the Colonials with a season-high 19 points against the Titans. Noa Givon reached double digits scoring again as she had 14 points while playing all 40 minutes. Jennica Suggs had her best collegiate game as she finished with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds and two steals.
