MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team fell to No. 8 Penn State, 5-0, in the opening game of their weekend series. The loss moves RMU's record to 8-18-3 overall and 2-11-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
- Penn State opened the scoring early, with Stella Retrum finding the back of the net just 1:45 into the game.
- With five minutes remaining, the Nittany Lions doubled their lead on a goal from Katelyn Roberts, taking a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission.
- Penn State outshot RMU 19-5, while the Colonials successfully killed off PSU's only power play opportunity in the period.
SECOND PERIOD
- At the halfway point, Penn State extended its lead to 3-0 as Roberts netted her second goal of the night.
- RMU managed to generate more offensive opportunities but was held scoreless, registering five shots on goal to Penn State's 14 in the middle frame.
THIRD PERIOD
- The Nittany Lions made it 4-0 midway through the final period before Tessa Janecke sealed the win with a power-play goal on a slap shot with five minutes left, securing a 5-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Penn State outshot RMU 51-22 and held a 42-18 advantage in faceoffs.
- Veronica Bac led RMU with four shots on goal.
- Freshman defenseman Shayne Desjardins had a standout defensive effort, blocking a career-high nine shots. Kaitlyn Schooley and Mya Kearns each added five blocks.
- RMU's penalty kill finished 3-for-4, while the Colonials were 0-for-4 on the power play.
- Goaltender Maggie Hatch made 46 saves, marking her ninth career performance with 45+ saves.

RMU will look to bounce back in the series finale against Penn State on Saturday, February 1, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 PM at Clearview Arena.
