MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team is set to face Youngstown State in its regular season finale on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:00 PM. The match will take place at Farmers National Bank Field and stream live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
RMU (4-8-4, 2-4-3 #HLWSOC) enters its final regular season match following a narrow 3-2 loss at Wright State last week. The Colonials built an early 2-0 lead with goals from
Ava Trethewey and
Paloma Swankler, but the Raiders rallied late to claim the win.
In that contest, senior
Malia Kearns recorded her second assist of the season, while freshman
Sydney Chontos earned a start and logged a career-high 90 minutes. Between the posts,
Emma Cameron collected seven saves.
Through 16 games this season, Trethewey continues to lead RMU in goals (9) and points (20). She and
Madison Hurst each own two game-winners, while Swankler,
Ivy Chaskelson, and
Jillian Marvin share the team lead with three assists apiece. Junior defender
Shauna Gamble has anchored the backline all year, leading the team with 1,439 minutes played.
In net, Cameron has recorded four wins and four shutouts, while her .760 save percentage ranks fourth in the Horizon League.
BREAKOUT SEASON
Junior
Ava Trethewey has been one of the league's most dangerous attackers over the second half of the season, entering Wednesday on a five-game point streak (six goals, one assist). The Charleston, W.Va., native leads the Horizon League in goals (9) and ranks third in points (20).
Since RMU joined the conference in 2020, Trethewey is just the second Colonial to record 20 points in a season. Her 20 points rank seventh all-time in program history, while her nine goals sit sixth.
ALL-TIME VS. YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Since 1996, RMU holds a 15-10-1 record against Youngstown State. The teams have split their last 10 meetings evenly at 5-5. Last season, the Penguins earned a 3-1 win, with
Taylor Day scoring RMU's lone goal on assists from Swankler and
Haleigh Finale. The year prior, RMU secured a 2-1 victory in Youngstown behind goals from Swankler and Kristi Kania — a win that clinched the program's first-ever Horizon League playoff berth.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
YSU (7-9-2, 5-2-2 #HLWSOC) enters its regular season finale after a 3-2 loss at Northern Kentucky. Before that, the Penguins had won four straight matches without conceding a goal. YSU currently sits in third place in the conference standings and has already secured a postseason berth.
Forwards Sara Felder and Kamryn Rosa share the team lead with seven goals apiece, while Felder also paces the Penguins with 17 points and three game-winners. Senior Chloe Weiland leads YSU in assists (5), and defender Emma Rigone has anchored the backline with 1,491 minutes played.
In goal, Maya Naimoli has started 16 games, posting six wins, four shutouts, and a .744 save percentage.
THE TABLE
Heading into the final matchday, RMU sits in seventh place in the Horizon League standings—just one spot outside of playoff position. The Colonials will need a win over Youngstown State and an Oakland loss to Detroit Mercy to clinch a postseason berth.
