Colonials Travel to Northern Kentucky for First Road Conference Test

10/3/2025 11:45:00 AM

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team is set for its first Horizon League road contest of the season, visiting Northern Kentucky on Saturday, October 4. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. in Highland Heights, Ky., with live coverage available on ESPN+.

RMU LATELY
RMU (3-5-2, 1-1-1 #HLWSOC) enters the weekend on the heels of their first league victory of the campaign, a gritty 1-0 win at home over Detroit Mercy last Thursday. Sophomore midfielder Ava Trethewey delivered the decisive moment, firing home the game-winner in the second half. In net, sophomore goalkeeper Emma Cameron stood tall, producing six saves—including four in the final 10 minutes—to secure the clean sheet. Her effort earned her Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Through 10 matches, Trethewey leads the squad in both goals (3) and points (7). Veteran defender Jillian Marvin has set the tone as a distributor with a team-high three assists, while sophomore forward Madison Hurst owns two game-winning goals. Defender Shauna Gamble has been the ironwoman of the back line, logging 899 minutes to pace the roster. Between the posts, Cameron has started eight matches, tallying three wins, three shutouts, and 29 saves.

DEFENSE AT THE FOREFRONT
Defense has been RMU's calling card in 2025. The Colonials currently sit second in the Horizon League in goals allowed per game (1.40). Cameron has anchored that effort, ranking second in the conference in goals against average (1.375) and fourth in save percentage (.725).

ALL-TIME VS. NORTHERN KENTUCKY
RMU and Northern Kentucky have met nine times since 2013, with the Norse holding a 5-2-2 advantage.

Last season in Moon Township, the teams battled to a 1-1 draw at the North Athletic Complex. Then-senior Taylor Day netted the equalizer in the 80th minute off a Marvin free-kick service.

SCOUTING THE NORSE
NKU (6-2-4, 3-1-0 #HLWSOC) enters Saturday, coming off its first setback in league play, a narrow 3-2 road loss at top-seeded Milwaukee. Prior to that, the Norse opened conference play with three straight victories over Oakland, IU Indy, and Green Bay.

Offensively, junior forward Megan Molner leads the team with seven goals and 15 points, while graduate defender Lilly Yordy has matched her point total with four goals and a team-best seven assists. Junior forward Erykah Cornett adds another scoring threat with six goals. Defensively, senior Alyssa Carnes has been the minutes leader (1,029), while senior goalkeeper Megan Gessner has started every match, recording six wins, four shutouts, and 42 saves with a .824 save percentage.

Last season, the Norse finished 12-7-1 overall and reached the Horizon League Tournament final, where they fell 2-1 to No. 1 Milwaukee.
