RMU LATELY
RMU (2-2-0) returns home after a road trip at Bemidji State, where the Colonials dropped both games by scores of 3-0 and 4-1. Goaltenders
Maggie Hatch and
Lucy Phillips each made a start in the series, while
Morgan Giannone provided the team's lone goal, assisted by
Taylor Storey and
Emma Goding.
Through four games, three Colonials are averaging at least a point per contest:
Jessica MacKinnon (1g, 4a), Giannone (2g, 2a), and freshman
Linnea Misner (1g, 3a). MacKinnon leads RMU in assists and points, while captain
Alaina Giampietro paces the team with three goals and a +5 rating. MacKinnon and
Shayne Desjardins have each netted a game-winner, with Desjardins also contributing defensively by blocking 10 shots.
Between the pipes, Hatch owns one win and a .919 save percentage across two starts, while Phillips has matched that with a .902 save percentage and one victory of her own.
FACEOFF SUCCESS
The Colonials have been dominant in the faceoff circle to start the year, winning 63.3% of their draws — the top mark in the AHA. All four of RMU's primary centers are above 50% on faceoffs, led by MacKinnon, who tops the conference with 61 wins. Veteran
Catriona Crarer remains the team's most experienced center with 445 career faceoff victories.
Faceoff Leaders:
ALL-TIME VS. RIT
This weekend marks the 51st and 52nd all-time meetings between RMU and RIT. The Colonials hold a commanding 31-15-4 edge in the series dating back to 2007, including a 17-7-2 record on home ice. RMU averages 3.12 goals per game all-time against the Tigers and is 5-4-1 in the last 10 matchups.
Last season, RMU closed the series with a 5-4 overtime win after dropping two contests and earning a 2-2 tie with a 1-0 shootout victory. In those four meetings,
Emma Goding (2g, 1a) and Crarer (1g, 2a) led the team offensively, while Giannone (2a) and Arnold (1g, 1a) also tallied multiple points.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
RIT (2-2-0) enters the weekend with the same record as RMU after sweeping Post at home (2-0, 8-1) and dropping two close road games at No. 14 Northeastern (3-2, 3-1).
Junior defenseman Emma Pickering leads the Tigers with four points (1g, 3a) and a +3 rating, while senior forward Jaidan Fahrny has added three assists. Four players have already scored twice this season, and RIT's power play has been a strength — converting at a stellar 46.7% with seven different skaters recording power-play goals.
In goal, senior netminder Sophia Bellina has started three games, posting a 1.68 goals against average, .939 save percentage, and one shutout.
