MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team was held off the scoresheet in the series finale against No. 6 Penn State, falling 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Clearview Arena. With the result, the Colonials move to 5-7-0 overall and 3-3-0 in AHA play.
FIRST PERIOD
Penn State struck early, scoring just over two minutes into the contest as Mikah Keller set up Maddy Christian in the slot for the opening tally.
Later in the frame, the Nittany Lions capitalized on their first power play of the afternoon. Christian netted her second of the period, depositing a rebound off the end boards to extend the lead to 2-0.
Penn State held a 17-7 advantage in shots through 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD
RMU opened the period on the power play following a bench minor assessed to Penn State at the end of the first. The Colonials generated three shots on the advantage but could not convert.
Midway through the period, senior
Morgan Giannone nearly broke through on a breakaway, sliding a chance through the goaltender's pads but just wide of the post.
Penn State responded with two goals in a span of 80 seconds to push the lead to 4-0. The Nittany Lions outshot RMU 16-6 in the second.
THIRD PERIOD
Penn State received another game misconduct in the third, but neither side found the back of the net as the score held at 4-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Penn State outshot RMU 46-16. Giannone and Taylor Storey paced the Colonials with three shots on goal each.
- Special teams: PSU went 2-for-5, while RMU finished 0-for-6. The Nittany Lions totaled 38 penalty minutes.
- In the faceoff circle, Jessica MacKinnon won a team-high 11 draws.
- Defensively, Shayne Desjardins led the Colonials with four blocked shots.
- In net, Lucy Phillips recorded 42 saves, her third career outing with 40+ stops.

RMU continues its homestand next week with a two-game set against Mercyhurst. The series begins Friday, November 7 at 3:00 PM, with the finale on Saturday, November 8 at 3:00 PM. Both games will stream live on FloHockey.
