MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Despite a heavy push in the third period and a 38-shot afternoon, the RMU women's hockey team was unable to break through offensively, falling 1-0 to RPI on Friday at Clearview Arena. The Colonials move to 5-10-0 overall through the first 15 games of the 2025-26 campaign.
 
FIRST PERIOD
The opening frame saw limited action early, but momentum appeared to tilt toward RMU midway through the period when RPI committed back-to-back penalties. The Colonials generated a 13-second 5-on-3 opportunity but couldn't convert, as the Engineers' penalty kill held firm.
 
RPI earned a power play of its own in the final minutes, registering four shots, but RMU's penalty killers matched the effort. The period closed scoreless with both teams recording five shots on goal.
 
SECOND PERIOD
Penalties continued to shape the flow of the contest, with RMU receiving another chance on the power play early in the period. The Engineers then gained a major power play with six minutes remaining, giving them an extended five-minute advantage.
 
RMU came up with a strong, composed kill, and nearly turned the momentum into a goal in the final minute. However, RPI capitalized on a late rush the other way, burying a rebound with 0.3 seconds left to take a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.
 
THIRD PERIOD
The Colonials controlled play throughout the third, generating extended pressure and outshooting RPI 18-6. RMU pulled goaltender Maggie Hatch in the final minutes and produced additional looks, but the equalizer never materialized as RPI held on for the one-goal win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• RMU outshot RPI 38-25, led by forwards Alaina Giampietro and Jessica MacKinnon, who each posted eight shots on goal.
• Special teams went scoreless on both sides: RMU finished 0-for-4 on the power play, while RPI went 0-for-2.
• Defensively, Shayne Desjardins and Linnea Misner each tallied two blocked shots.
• Faceoffs were even at 22 apiece. NCAA faceoff leader Jessica MacKinnon won nine draws and finished at 60.0%.
• Goaltender Maggie Hatch stopped 24 of 25 shots.

 
COLONIAL FIRST
Freshman defenseman Molly Dunn made her collegiate debut, becoming the latest first-year player to join RMU's defensive unit. The Stittsville, Ontario native previously played for the Nepean Wildcats (OWHL).
