RMU Volleyball Falls to Milwaukee to Close Out Weekend Series

MILWAUKEE- The RMU volleyball team dropped game two of the weekend series with Milwaukee 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, falling to 9-18 overall and 5-11 in the Horizon League.
 
Jocelyn Jourdan recorded 12 kills, Kaitlyn Brown dished out 31 assists, and Jasmine Purakal had 17 digs to lead RMU statistically. The Colonials hit .126 in the match while Milwaukee registered a .287 hitting percentage. RMU recorded 35 kills, four aces, five blocks, 35 assists, and 52 digs on the afternoon.
 
Set 1: Milwaukee 28, Robert Morris 26
 
Despite Milwaukee starting the game with a quick 5-0 run to begin the match, the Colonials battled back to bring the game within one as RMU found themselves right back in it as an attack error by the Panthers' Natalie Schmitz tied the game up at 9-9. The score remained close as neither team was able to get more than a two-point lead the remainder of the set. A kill by Natalie Stepanovich tied the set at 26-26 before Milwaukee got back-to-back kills to take the first set 28-26. The Colonials had their best hitting percentage of the night, hitting .255 to open the match.
 
Set 2: Milwaukee 25, Robert Morris 21
 
Both teams started the second set neck-and-neck until Milwaukee went on a 4-0 run to go out in front 10-6. RMU quickly put on a small run of their own with three straight points to make it 10-9. The Panthers extended their lead by four as an attack error by Stepanovich made it 16-12 in favor of Milwaukee. Another 3-0 run by the Colonials brought it back within one as RMU trailed 16-15. Milwaukee found themselves up 24-20 after a 3-0 run, and despite a kill by Jourdan to make it 24-21, the Panthers got the kill from Josie Noble to close out the second set 25-21.
 
Set 3: Milwaukee 25, Robert Morris 13
 
The Milwaukee offense put together multiple runs in the third set to secure the sweep of the Colonials. The Colonials found themselves down 5-2 to begin the third set, but were able to find some momentum to bring the game within one as the Colonials trailed 10-9 after a kill by Natalie Frost. The Milwaukee offense came alive with a 4-0 run to build its lead up to 18-11 before holding the Colonial's offense to only two more points in the third set to secure the big 25-13 win. In the third set, RMU hit .033 with eight kills and seven errors on 30 total attempts.
 
UP NEXT
 
Robert Morris (9-18, 5-11 HL) will return to the UPMC Events Center next weekend to close out the regular season with a two-game series against Green Bay (9-18, 8-8 HL). Friday's match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m., while Saturday's matchup against the Phoenix is slated for Noon. Saturday, RMU will honor its three seniors, Kaitlyn Brown, Hillarie Adams, and Madison Floyd, for Senior Day.
