MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – After averaging 25.5 points per game while shooting 82.6% from the field, 71.4% from three-point range, and 80% from the foul line in RMU's two victories last week,
Alvaro Folgueiras has been named Horizon League Player of the Week.
Folgueiras began the week with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting and three steals in RMU's 71-56 win over Detroit Mercy on February 5. He then exploded for a career-high 35 points on 12 field goals and eight free throws, along with 10 rebounds, in the Colonials' 81-76 victory at NKU. He shot 85.7% (12-of-14) and was 3-of-4 from three-point range, recording his 10th double-double of the season against the Norse.
His 35-point performance ties for the third-highest scoring output in the Horizon League this season and marks the first time an RMU player has scored 35 points in a game since Rodney Pryor on December 5, 2015.
Currently, Folgueiras is nationally ranked in the following categories:
- 8th with 250 total rebounds
- 10th with 7.1 defensive rebounds per game
- 16th with 9.6 rebounds per game
- 13th with 10 double-doubles
This marks Folgueiras' second Horizon League Player of the Week award this season.
RMU continues its road trip with a matchup against Cleveland State on Wednesday, February 12. The Colonials return to the UPMC Events Center on Saturday, February 15, to host Purdue Fort Wayne for Senior Day.
