Derrick Nsubuga Named RMU Football Defensive Line Coach

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU Football head coach Bernard Clark, Jr. has named Derrick Nsubuga the Colonials' defensive line coach.

"Coach Nsubuga has a great passion for coaching especially when it comes to the defensive line," said Clark. "He does a very good job of coaching the basic fundamentals and the minute details when it comes to playing defensive line. He is also one of the most positive people that I have been around."

Nsubuga (Sue-buh-guh) arrives in Moon Township after spending the last two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at Utah State. During his time with the Aggies, he coached six Mountain West All-Conference players, including Football Network All-Americans Jalen Royals and Ike Larsen.

In his first year at Utah State, the defense ranked 33rd nationally in tackles for loss (6.2 per game) and 38th in forced turnovers (20).

Before joining Utah State, Nsubuga spent five years at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. From 2019 to 2022, he served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, helping the Firebirds capture the 6A state championship in 2020.

While at Chaparral, he was named the 6A Defensive Coach of the Year by ArizonaVarsity.com and helped send five of his defensive linemen to Division I programs.

Nsubuga graduated from Lindenwood University in 2017 with a degree in exercise science. He played defensive tackle for the Lions before joining the coaching staff for one season as an assistant defensive line coach and defensive quality control coach.

Prior to Lindenwood, he attended Southern Illinois for two years and Arizona State for one year.

A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Nsubuga was an all-state, all-region, and all-Arizona performer at Chaparral High School.
