SOMERSET, N.J. – RMU quarterback
Carson Haggard has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC)/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Offensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week, the league announced Monday.
With his latest honor, Haggard becomes the first player in RMU football history to earn NEC Offensive Player of the Week accolades in three consecutive weeks. He is also the first NEC player to three-peat as the league's Offensive Player of the Week since former Sacred Heart standout and current NFL running back Julius Chestnut accomplished the feat during the abbreviated 2020-21 season.
Haggard was also selected as an NEC Prime Performer alongside Amanuel Dickson, who earned Prime Performer recognition for the third consecutive week.
The fifth-year quarterback continued his recent tear Saturday at Morgan State, topping a career performance from the previous week against Norfolk State. After throwing for 296 yards in RMU's thrilling 33-31 Homecoming victory over the Spartans, Haggard completed 23-of-30 passes for a career-high 376 yards and three touchdowns against Morgan State.
Haggard did not throw an interception and accounted for each of the Colonials' four touchdowns, adding a four-yard rushing score in the 28-27 setback.
His 376 passing yards rank second in RMU single-game history, marking one of the top passing performances in program history. The total was also the most by any NEC quarterback this week and the second-most by a conference quarterback in a game this season.
Haggard completed a season-best 76.7 percent of his passes, a mark that ranks fourth all-time in RMU single-game history. He averaged 12.5 yards per attempt and 16.3 yards per completion.
With another standout performance, Haggard increased his season total to an NEC-leading 1,444 passing yards. The Miami, Fla., native also sits atop the conference in passing touchdowns (15), passing yards per game (240.7) and pass efficiency (156.2).
On the national level, Haggard has been responsible for 18.0 points per game for the Colonials, an average that ranks sixth in the FCS, while his 15 passing touchdowns are tied for eighth-most nationally.
Amanuel Dickson earned his third consecutive NEC Prime Performer honor after leading the RMU defense with nine total tackles against Morgan State, including a game-high eight solo stops. He also registered 0.5 tackles for loss for three yards and added a pass breakup in the secondary.
The performance continued a productive stretch for Dickson, who recorded 11 tackles against Norfolk State the previous week. He has totaled 20 tackles over the Colonials' last two games, continuing to emerge as one of RMU's most productive defenders.
