RMU Women’s Soccer Finishes Up Season Opening Homestand Against Canisius

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team is set to wrap up its three-game, season-opening homestand against non-conference opponent Canisius. The game is scheduled for Thursday, August 28 at 4:00 PM at the North Athletic Complex. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Spencer Witt on the call and Casey Erlewein providing analysis.
 
RMU LATELY
RMU (1-1) is coming off its first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over USI at home. Both goals were career firsts for freshman Sydney Chontos and sophomore Madison Hurst. Freshman Bailey Campbell also picked up her first career assist in the match, while Paloma Swankler earned her first of the season. In net, junior Emma Cameron made one save to earn her first career win.
 
Senior captain Jillian Marvin was a key contributor, recording an assist on both goals for her first career multi-assist match. Her performance earned her Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors, which was also her first career weekly award.
 
ALL-TIME VS. CANISIUS
Dating back to 1993, these two programs have played a total of 12 times, with RMU holding a 7-5 advantage over Canisius. The last two contests were at home, with RMU winning 2-0 in 2021 and 3-1 in 2019. Overall, the Colonials have averaged 1.17 goals per game against the Golden Griffins.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS
Canisius (0-3) enters this contest looking for its first win and goal of the 2025 campaign. The Golden Griffins started their season with a 3-0 loss against Buffalo, followed by a 4-0 and 2-0 loss to Syracuse and Colorado College. Freshman goalkeeper Chloe Tseros has started all three games, recording 17 total saves. On the pitch, senior midfielder Lizzy Harkness has played the most minutes for the Golden Griffins (268).
 
Looking at top producers from last season, senior Skylar Cornell returns after ranking fifth in points, with two goals and eight assists. Last year, Canisius finished with a 12-4-3 overall record and an 8-2-2 mark in conference play before falling in the MAAC semifinals against Quinnipiac.
