Colonials Begin Horizon League Play Hosting Milwaukee and Green Bay

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team opens Horizon League action this week at the North Athletic Complex, hosting Milwaukee on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 4:00 p.m. and Green Bay on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will stream live on ESPN+ with Spencer Witt on the call.
 
RMU LATELY
The Colonials (2-4-1) closed non-conference play, falling 3-1 at UMBC. Junior Ava Trethewey scored her first goal of the season from the penalty spot, while graduate goalkeeper Abbey Cowles recorded a season-high seven saves.
 
Through seven matches, sophomore Madison Hurst leads the team with two goals. Jillian Marvin owns a team-best two assists, while Trethewey and Paloma Swankler have each contributed a goal and an assist. Defenders Shauna Gamble and Emerson Johngarlo have played every minute this season, logging all 630 minutes. In net, Emma Cameron has started five matches, earning two wins and two clean sheets.
 
CONFERENCE PLAY
A year ago, RMU reached the Horizon League semifinals in Head Coach Michelle Rick's first season. The Colonials advanced past IU Indy in the quarterfinals, 1-0 in overtime, with Marvin netting the golden goal off a corner kick.
 
Swankler led RMU in points during league play with three goals and five assists, while Taylor Day scored a team-high four goals.
 
ALL-TIME VS. MILWAUKEE
RMU will be looking for its first win against Milwaukee, with the Panthers making their first trip to Moon Township since 2021.
 
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Milwaukee (3-4-1) enters the week after a 7-0 win over SIUE. Earlier this season, the Panthers faced three ranked opponents, falling at North Carolina, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.
 
Ashlyn Skinner-Barrett leads the team with two goals and four assists, while Mallory McGuire has a team-high three goals. Goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach has two wins, one shutout, and 41 saves in seven appearances.
 
ALL-TIME VS. GREEN BAY
The Colonials are unbeaten all-time against Green Bay (1-0-3). In 2023, RMU earned a 5-1 win behind two goals from Malia Kearns, before playing the Phoenix to a 1-1 draw in 2024 with Day scoring and Swankler assisting.
 
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
Green Bay (2-5-1) is coming off a 2-1 win over St. Thomas. The Phoenix also have victories over Western Illinois and a draw with Illinois State.
 
Ryann Hafenbrak leads the team with three goals and an assist, while Senah Hanes has three goals and Laney Stark holds a team-high two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Williams has started seven matches, posting two wins and 16 saves.

RMU continues its homestand on Thursday, Sept. 25, hosting Detroit Mercy at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
