MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Despite controlling much of the early play, the RMU women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Milwaukee in its Horizon League opener on Thursday afternoon. The Colonials move to 2-5-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
RMU came out strong, holding the Panthers without a shot through the first 22 minutes and outshooting them 4-0 in that stretch.
However, just before halftime Milwaukee broke through when Emily Petring converted from distance to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Panthers doubled their advantage early in the second half as Zoey Pagels struck from outside the box to make it 2-0.
The Colonials nearly responded when
Madison Hurst sent a shot just over the crossbar, and later in the match
Malia Kearns worked her way past two defenders to set up
Paloma Swankler, whose attempt was turned away.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Milwaukee finished with a 12-5 advantage in total shots and 5-3 edge on target, while also leading 4-2 in corner kicks. Each side was whistled for 11 fouls. In net, RMU goalkeeper
Emma Cameron recorded three saves.
Four Colonials –

Jillian Marvin,
Ivy Chaskelson, and
Julia Becerra – played the full 90 minutes. The contest also marked the first Horizon League action for freshmen Chaskelson,
