FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The RMU volleyball team won its fifth straight match on Saturday afternoon, defeating Purdue Fort Wayne 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-21). The Colonials improve to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League, while the Mastodons fall to 2-11, 0-2 HL.
Jocelyn Jourdan recorded a double-double, finishing with a career-high 23 kills and 13 digs while hitting .316.
Kaitlyn Brown also posted a double-double with 43 assists and 11 digs.
Layla Todd contributed a career-best 13 kills, and
Jasmine Purakal led the team with 16 digs.
RMU used a 7-0 run early in the first set to take a 12-7 lead. However, PFW battled back to tie the score and subsequently take the lead at 17-16. Although the Colonials would tie the set twice more and hold off one set point, they never regained the lead and dropped the opener 25-23.
With the Mastodons leading the second set 19-17, three straight kills from Jourdan put the Colonials ahead 20-19. PFW would tie the contest three more times, the last at 23-23, before kills from
Azra Eric and
Tia Schultz ended the set to even the match at 1-1.
RMU controlled the majority of the third set. A 5-0 run midway through gave the Colonials an 18-11 cushion as they cruised to a 25-15 win.
In the fourth set, consecutive kills from Todd put RMU up 21-16. The Colonials held off a late Mastodon run to win the set 25-21, with Jourdan's 23rd kill of the day sealing the match.
Up next, the Colonials stay on the road for a midweek matchup at Youngstown State on Tuesday, September 30 before their conference home opener on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5 against Oakland.

- The five-match winning streak is RMU's longest since Sept. 3-16, 2022 when the Colonials took six straight victories
- Jourdan's previous career-high was 19 kills, against Purdue Fort Wayne last season
