MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU volleyball team opened its 2025 home slate on Friday by splitting a pair of five-set battles at the UPMC Events Center. The Colonials outlasted FDU in the opener before falling to Loyola Maryland in the nightcap.
Match 1: RMU vs. FDU
- RMU came out firing, racing to a 12-5 lead behind 17 kills and a .387 hitting percentage in the first set. Junior Jocelyn Jourdan tallied five kills as the Colonials cruised, 25-15.
- FDU flipped the momentum in set two, jumping ahead 10-3 thanks to RMU miscues. The Knights finished with 13 kills in the frame and evened the match, 25-15.
- Set three featured big swings both ways. After trailing 12-10, FDU used a 6-0 run to grab control, but RMU answered late with four straight points to tie it at 24. The Knights closed out the set, however, 26-24.
- The Colonials steadied in the fourth, taking a 13-8 lead behind four kills from Jourdan. RMU never allowed FDU closer than three points the rest of the way, finishing 25-20 on a kill from Natalie Frost.
- In the decisive fifth, RMU stormed ahead 8-1 thanks to four early FDU errors and never looked back. Freshman Tia Schultz sealed the match with the final point.
Inside the Box Score
- Jourdan led RMU with 17 kills.
- Frost set a career-high with 14 kills to go along with 14 digs and three blocks.
- Keira Hornung was a force at the net with a career-best six blocks.
- Kaitlyn Brown dished out a match-high 26 assists.
Match 2: RMU vs. Loyola Maryland
- RMU's offense stayed hot early, posting 19 kills in the opening set — its best single-set output of the day. Azra Eric paced the attack with five kills on six swings, while Frost and Hillarie Adams closed the frame with three straight points to secure a 25-17 win.
- The Colonials carried momentum into the second, using a 6-1 run midway through and four straight Greyhound errors late to pull away, 25-15.
- Loyola Maryland answered in set three, jumping out 7-2 and never letting up. Behind 17 kills and an 8-0 surge, the Greyhounds rolled, 25-11.
- The fourth was tightly contested early, but after RMU pulled within one behind Addyson Butts and Hornung, Loyola finished on an 8-2 run to take it, 25-19.
- The deciding fifth went back and forth. Jourdan sparked RMU early with two kills, and Schultz delivered a clutch late point to tie it at 10. After trading blows to 14-all, Loyola capitalized on an RMU error and closed it out, 16-14.

- Jourdan capped her strong day with 12 kills and a career-high three aces.
- Hornung added seven kills and four blocks.
- Jasmine Purakal anchored the back row with a match-best 28 digs.
