MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team continues Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play this weekend with a two-game series at Army in West Point, N.Y. The series opener is scheduled for Friday, January 16 at 7:00 PM, followed by the finale on Saturday, January 17 with puck drop set for 4:00 PM. Both contests will stream live on FloHockey.
RMU LATELY
RMU (4-14-2, 4-7-1 AHA) looks to respond after earning one point in last weekend's road series at RIT. In Friday night's opener, junior forward
Tanner Klimpke found the back of the net, with
Cameron Garvey and
Dominic Elliott recording assists.
The Colonials carried that momentum into Saturday's contest, pushing the Tigers to overtime before falling 3-2. Freshman
Bruce McDonald netted the first goal of his collegiate career, while
Michael Felsing added a power-play tally. Junior forward
Jackson Reineke chipped in with two assists, Elliott picked up his second helper of the series, and freshman defenseman
John Babcock added an assist as well.
Through 20 games, Klimpke leads RMU in both goals (7) and points (13), while McDonald paces the team with eight assists. On the defensive end, Babcock has blocked 46 shots this season, including 16 over the last three games. In goal, freshman
Charlie Schenkel has started 18 games, earning four wins while posting a .894 save percentage.
ALL-TIME VS. ARMY
RMU and Army have met 32 times since 2011, with the Colonials holding a 14-12-6 edge in the all-time series. Seven of those meetings have required overtime, and RMU has recorded four shutouts against the Black Knights.
Garvey has three assists in four career games versus Army, while
McKay Hayes has totaled two assists. Reineke has also been productive in the series, recording one goal and one assist.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
Army (8-10-5, 3-9-3 AHA) enters the weekend coming off a split at Mercyhurst. The Black Knights were shut out 3-0 in the opener before rebounding with a 5-0 victory in the series finale.
Sophomore forward Jack Ivey leads the team in points with 19, while his brother, Ben Ivey, paces the roster with eight goals. Sophomore Nils Forselius owns a team-high 13 assists. Defensively, junior Easton Zueger carries the team's best plus/minus rating at +10, and sophomore Sam Groebner leads the blue line with 48 blocked shots. Between the pipes, sophomore JJ Cataldo has started 20 games, earning seven wins and three shutouts while posting a .918 save percentage.
Army is averaging 2.7 goals per game while allowing the same number, with a power play operating at 21.8% and a penalty kill clicking at 78.4%. The Black Knights are winning 49.5% of their faceoffs through 23 games.
COMMON OPPONENTS
Both programs have faced LIU during non-conference play this season.

Following the series at Army, the Colonials return home to begin a six-game homestand, starting with a two-game set against Holy Cross on January 23–24. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM both nights, with both games streaming live on SportsNet Pittsburgh and FloHockey.
