Traore and Leroux Post Career Nights to Lead RMU to Thrilling OT Win

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. –  Career nights from Myriam Traore and Ava Leroux led RMU to a thrilling 80-70 overtime win over visiting IU Indy, marking the Colonials' first overtime win since 2020.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • Six points by Myriam Traore in two minutes put the Colonials up 6-2 following a pair of free throws by Traore with 8:24 on the clock.
  • IU Indy took its first lead of the game with 4:38 on the clock as Olivia Smith hit a jumper to put IU Indy up 9-8.
  • With 20 seconds on the clock, Traore picked up her ninth point of the contest, driving in for a layup and getting the foul to make it 19-13.
  • The Jaguars' Kamara Mills knocked down a three-point basket in the final ten seconds of the quarter to make it 19-16 at the end of the first.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Following a basket by the Jaguars, RMU went on a 6-0 run to put themselves on top 25-17 before IU Indy knocked down a three to cut the Colonials' lead back down to five.
  • A 6-0 run by IU Indy gave the Jaguars a 35-34 lead going into the half, following a layup by E'Zaria Adams with 28 seconds left on the clock.
  • Through two quarters, both teams shot over 50% with IU Indy shooting 60.9% and RMU shooting 58.3% from the floor. The Jaguars also held an 11-9 advantage in rebounding going into the half.
THIRD QUARTER
  • IU Indy extended its run to 9-0 and its lead to four, starting the third quarter off with a three-pointer from Nevaeh Foster, to go up 38-34.
  • The Colonials took the lead back from IU Indy following a 7-0 run, highlighted by six points from Leroux, to go up over the Jaguars 44-40 with 3:46 on the clock.
  • A layup by IU Indy's Destini Craig made it 47-46 RMU before the Colonials extended their lead to 50-46 after Eva Levingston made a layup and drew the foul, converting the free throw.
  • The Jaguars got one more point in the third quarter on a made free throw to make it 50-47 going into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • With 5:45 on the clock, IU Indy retook the lead for the third lead change for the Jaguars following a layup by Olivia Smith, making it 57-56 in favor of the Jaguars.
  • RMU found themselves up 64-60 after a pair of made free throws by Bailey Kuhns before the Jaguars stormed back and retook the lead on a 6-0 run to go up 66-64.
  • With 30 seconds remaining, Mallory Dally hit a pair of free throws to tie it back up at 66-66 before a missed basket by IU Indy, and a turnover by RMU sent the game to overtime.
OVERTIME
  • The Colonials came out hot in overtime, quickly going on an 8-0 run to go up over the Jaguars 74-66 with 2:50 to go.
  • A layup by Myriam Traore with 57 seconds to go gave the Colonials their biggest lead of the game, with RMU up 78-68.
  • IU Indy cut the lead back down to eight with a pair of made free throws before Aislin Malcolm closed out the scoring with a pair of free throws herself to make the score 80-70.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Myriam Traore and Ava Leroux both had career nights to lead the Colonials to the overtime win. Traore set a new career high with 22 points, while Leroux also set a new career high with 14 points. Traore went 8-for-12 on the floor to lead RMU, while Leroux went 5-for-7 while also pulling down six rebounds. Aislin Malcolm scored 13 points along with six assists and four steals. On the glass, Eva Levingston led the Colonials with seven rebounds.

As a team, RMU shot an impressive 56.3% from the floor, going 27-for-48 on the night. The Colonials also went 86.2% from the free-throw line, knocking down 25 of their 29 free-throw attempts. The Colonials also held a huge advantage on the glass, out-rebounding IU Indy 37-20 on the night.
 
The game featured eight lead changes and six ties, and was the first overtime win since March 9, 2020, when the Colonials beat Wagner 65-61 in overtime in the NEC Quarterfinals.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials will head back on the road with a 12-5 overall record and a 5-3 Horizon League record as RMU travels to Cleveland State (14-5, 4-4 HL) on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Wolstein Center. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+.
