MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team was held scoreless as Bentley scored five unanswered goals to earn a 5-0 victory Friday night in Atlantic Hockey America play at Clearview Arena. With the loss, the Colonials move to 7-16-2 overall and 7-9-1 in AHA action.
FIRST PERIOD
The opening frame remained scoreless for much of the period before Bentley broke through late. With just under two minutes remaining, Jack Black found the back of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.
Bentley controlled play early, outshooting RMU 14-5 in the opening 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD
Bentley extended its lead in the middle frame as Black struck again to make it 2-0. The Falcons followed with another goal later in the period, as Stephen Castagna scored to push the lead to three after two periods of play.
THIRD PERIOD
The Falcons added two more goals in the final period. Black completed the hat trick on the power play, while Alec Leonard capped the scoring with Bentley's fifth goal of the night, sealing the 5-0 final.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bentley finished with a 49-24 edge in shots on goal. Jackson Reineke, George Krotiris, and Tanner Klimpke each led RMU with three shots.
- RMU won the faceoff battle, claiming 39 of 61 draws, led by Patrick Johnson, who went 12-for-16 at the dot.
- The Colonials blocked 23 shots defensively, with Dominic Elliott pacing the team with six blocks.
- Bentley went 1-for-2 on the power play, while RMU was unable to convert on its two opportunities.
- In goal, Lucas Massie played the first 50 minutes and made 35 saves. Croix Kochendorfer closed out the contest, stopping nine shots over the final 10 minutes.
UP NEXT
RMU will look to even the series Saturday night when the Colonials host Bentley in the finale at Clearview Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
