RMU Men’s Basketball Hosts First Place Wright State in Nationally Televised Contest

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - National attention turns to the UPMC Events Center this Wednesday, Feb. 4, as RMU (14-10, 6-7 HL) hosts league-leading Wright State (15-8, 10-2 HL) on ESPNU. The Colonials are looking to recapture the magic of last March when they defeated the Raiders in Moon Township to advance to the semifinals in the Horizon League tournament.

RMU LATELY
The Colonials enter Wednesday's nationally televised matchup looking to bounce back after an 83-71 road loss at Purdue Fort Wayne on Jan. 31. Despite the setback, RMU has shown flashes of dominance recently, including a 16-point victory over IU Indy in their last home appearance at the UPMC Events Center. The Colonials have nine home wins under their belt this season.

WRIGHT STATE LATELY
The Raiders arrive in Moon Township as one of the hottest teams in the Horizon League, having won 10 of their last 11 games to take over the top spot in the conference standings. Wright State is currently riding a three-game winning streak following a "Wisconsin sweep" of Milwaukee and Green Bay, a road trip they had not swept since 2023. Led by a high-powered offense averaging over 80 points per game, the Raiders have proven particularly dangerous on the road, winning five consecutive conference away games.

RMU AND WRIGHT STATE HISTORY
The all-time series between RMU and Wright State dates back to 1978, beginning with a home-and-home sweep by the Raiders at the WSU Physical Education Building and the John Jay Center. After a 43-year hiatus, the rivalry resumed in 2021 upon RMU's entry into the Horizon League. Wright State holds a 10-3 advantage in the overall series, which includes a 4-2 record in Moon Township and a 3-2 mark at the UPMC Events Center.

RMU AND WRIGHT STATE LAST TIME OUT
On March 6, 2025, in front of a record-setting crowd of 4,058 at the UPMC Events Center, RMU advanced to the semifinal round of the Barbasol Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship with an 83-62 victory over Wright State. The win marked the Colonials' eighth straight victory and their 14th win in their last 15 games.

Kam Woods led all scorers with 19 points, while DJ Smith added 14. Josh Omojafo and Ryan Prather Jr. each contributed 13, and Alvaro Folgueiras finished with 12. Brandon Noel and Michael Imariagbe paced the Raiders with 15 points apiece.
