MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team continues its season-opening road trip Sunday, August 16, when the Colonials travel to Bowling Green. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Cochrane Stadium, with the match streaming live on YouTube.
SEASON OPENER
RMU (0-1) began the 2026 campaign in Annapolis, Md., taking on Navy. The Midshipmen scored four goals, with all four coming off set pieces.
Five newcomers –
Madison Sievering,
Sophia Cucchetti,
Fiona Fraser,
Alyssa Mella and
Sierra Hess – earned starts in the season opener, making their RMU debuts. Freshmen
Addison Orehowsky,
Samyah Costa and
Kally Prescott also made their collegiate debuts.
COLONIAL CAPTAINS
Seniors
Ava Trethewey,
Shauna Gamble and
Julia Becerra were each named captains for the 2026 season.
Trethewey is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history. In 2025, she ranked second in the Horizon League with nine goals. During the final stretch of the regular season, she produced a point in five consecutive games, recording six goals and one assist. Her efforts earned her a spot on the All-Horizon League First Team.
Gamble earned Third Team All-Horizon League honors as a junior. As a freshman in 2023, she was selected to the All-Freshman Team. Last season, Gamble played all but one minute for the Colonials, totaling 1,529 minutes on the pitch while recording two assists.
Becerra has played a vital role in the Colonials' midfield, utilizing a possession-based style in the middle of the park. She also scored the game-winning goal in RMU's 1-0 exhibition victory over Duquesne last week.
ALL-TIME VS. BOWLING GREEN
RMU is searching for its first win in program history against Bowling Green. The Falcons have won the last four meetings between the programs.
Last season, BGSU earned a 2-1 victory over the Colonials. RMU's
Paloma Swankler scored the Colonials' lone goal, with assists from Gamble and Trethewey.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Bowling Green opens its 2026 campaign by hosting the Colonials after completing exhibition contests against Purdue and Notre Dame.
The Falcons finished the 2025 season with a 10-3-9 overall record and a 4-1-7 mark in conference play. In the MAC Tournament, Bowling Green defeated Buffalo and Miami (Ohio) to advance to the championship game, where it fell 1-0 to Western Michigan.
