Ron Newton is in his fifth season with the Colonials as a sprint coach in 2025-26.
Newton owns almost 15 years of coaching experience in track & field, working with athletes of various ages while being considered one of the top sprint youth coaches in Western Pennsylvania. During his time at RMU, Newton has designed and implemented effective sprint workouts, utilizing mindful tactics for motivating student-athletes to achieve exceptional individual and team performances. Newton’s contribution to the team has led to multiple program records being reset during his tenure along with the RMU sprint crew being a force to recon with within the Horizon League Division.Â
Notable coaching achievements include; Â Elicia Moore (2023-24 season) won the outdoor 400-meter title at the Horizon League Championships and also led the 4x400-meter relay team to a Championship gold medal and program record times as well.Â
The 2024-25 season saw Hannah McDanel emerge as a quadruple bronze medalist at Championships in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 4x100-meter & 4x400-meter relays while also setting new program records in the individual events.Â
Juliana Page-Daughtry became the new 400-meter program record holder and also made a significant contribution towards the 4x400-meter relay team lowering the program mark in that event at the 2025 Horizon League Championship.Â
In 2021, Newton, a native of Kingston Jamaica, founded El1te Spr1nt Athlet1cs. His youth track club has gained national recognition by producing 5 National Champions Titles in long jump, triple jump and several more All-American athletes  in various events such as the, 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter, 1,500-meter, 3,000-meter, 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.
Newton competed in soccer at the NCAA Division II level. After a prep career in which he was seen as one of Jamaica’s top youth goalkeepers and track and field sprinters.Â
