In Memory ...
Josh O'Bannon
1984-2008
On Monday, April 28, the Robert Morris University football program, department of athletics and university community lost a valued member when Josh O'Bannon passed away in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Josh was in training for the Ohio Army National Guard, just four months after completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in communications at Robert Morris.
Josh spent four seasons as a defensive back with the Colonial football team from 2003 to 2006, earning four letters while appearing in 35 career games. On his career he compiled 52 tackles and four interceptions, with his best season coming as a sophomore in 2004. That year Josh finished with 27 tackles and led RMU in passes defended with 16 while recording three interceptions.
As well as his accomplishments on the football field, Josh was involved in many activities throughout the department of athletics, including helping with special projects. During the 2004-05 campaign, Josh served as a manager for the Colonial women's basketball team, which finished with a 20-10 record and advanced to the NEC Tournament championship game.
To help honor the life, memory and legacy of Josh, the Robert Morris football team will wear stickers on its helmets for the 2008 season. The sticker will be adorned with the letters "OB", a name for which Josh was often affectionately called. In addition, the Colonial women's basketball team will wear patches on its uniforms with the letters "OB" on both its home and road jerseys for the 2008-09 campaign.
