Sharing the first Higher Images RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2014-15 season is junior goalkeeper Brenden Alfery of the soccer squad. A transfer from Grove City and a native of Cheswick, Pa., Alfery helped the Colonials open the 2014 with a 1-0-1 record last weekend in a pair of games at the North Athletic Complex. In a 1-1 draw against Hartwick (8/29), Alfery made six saves in regulation but saved his best for overtime, when he added three more saves. His most important came when he turned away a penalty kick in the second extra frame to preserve the draw. Two days later, Alfery posted four saves to record the clean sheet as RMU earned a 3-0 victory over Rider (8/31). For his efforts on opening weekend, Alfery was selected as the first U-ADE Northeast Conference Player of the Week (9/2).Â
