Field Hockey Defeats Siena 3-2

Box Score The Robert Morris University field hockey team hosted Siena Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Joe Walton Stadium for a conference tilt. The Colonials defeated the Saints (2-11, 2-5 NEC), 3-2, improving RMU to 3-12 on the season and 1-5 in the NEC.

The Saints opened the scoring 13:57 into the game when Meridith Yund scored off a pass from Anne Linley. Just 7:00 later, the Colonials struck twice in three minutes. Sophomore forward Jillian Howley (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport) tied the game at one, sophomore forward Sarah Schrott (Quarryville, Pa. / Lancaster) and freshman defender Jessica Charles (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) recorded assists on the goal. Sophomore forward Sam Lawless (St. louis, Mo. / Lafayette) gave the Colonials a, 2-1, lead at the 23:45 mark. Schrott and junior forward Gwen Dalphon (Elkton, Md. / Bohemia Manor) tallied assists on the goal. Kristin McGorty scored with just under four minutes left in the half tying the game for the Saints, Carly Demartis picked up an assist on the goal.

The Colonials scord the lone goal of a hard fought second half when Howley scored her second goal of the day at the 54:26 mark. The goal was assisted by junior midfielder Megan Kelley (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) and sophomore forward Maddy Carroll (Birdsboro, Pa. / Twin Valley).

For the Colonials junior goalkeeper Kate Dunlap (Centerport, Pa. / Schuylkill Valley) made 11 saves on 13 shots, while Siena's Renee Clavette and Jennifer Tesak tallied one save each.

For the game the Saints held the advantage in shots, 18-12, and corners, 13-4.

The Colonials close out the season next weekend when they host Quinnipiac on October 27 at 3:00 p.m. and Fairfield on October 29 at Noon.
