Preview
After defeating Rider in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Semifinals yesterday, 1-0, the Robert Morris University field hockey team will look to win their first-ever conference championship as they play second-seeded Quinnipiac this afternoon.

Last Meeting
The Colonials met the Bobcats on Oct. 18 at Hamden, Conn., but fell 3-0. Jessica Rusin tallied the first two goals for Quinnipiac, while Christa Romano added the finishing touches in the 58th minute. Both Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) and Emma Singer (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) saw time for RMU between the pipes, while forwards Chloe McIlwaine (Belfast, Ireland / Northumbria University) and Julianne Alspaugh (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) each challenged the Bobcat netminder with three shots on goal.

How Did They Get Here
Quinnipiac defeated Bryant in the first MAAC semifinal contest, 5-0. Danielle Allan scored twice for the Bobcats, while Jess Rusin, Jennalise Taylor, and Megan Osantisch also tallied goals. Megan Conaboy registered a shutout after stopping nine shots.

History vs. Quinnipiac
The Colonials are 1-9 all-time against Quinnipiac, with their only win coming in 2008. Hayley Botha and Maddy Carroll tallied goals in the 2-1 victory, which came on Senior Day.

In Case You Missed History
RMU upset preseason favorite and top-seeded Rider in the MAAC Semifinals, 1-0, behind a goal from sophomore Jess Martin Brown (Mount Gambier, Australia / University of Adelaide). Martin-Brown batted in a rebound from Julianne Alspaugh in the 28th minute, and Erin McKenzie stopped seven shots to earn her seventh shutout of the season.

Quick Hitters
  • With the win yesterday, the Colonials improved to 11-7, continuing their first ever double-digit winning season. Their previous best win total came in 2011 when they won eight games.
  • For the first time since Oct. 2, RMU had a student-athlete claim a weekly award from the MAAC. Junior midfielder Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals against Monmouth, and freshman forward Harriet Brown (Salisbury, United Kingdom / Canford School) was honored with the MAAC Rookie of the Week.
  • Chloe McIlwaine and Jess Martin-Brown both rank tied for fifth in the MAAC in goals per game. Both forwards have nine goals, which ties Martin-Brown's record set a season ago.
  • Jamie Hartley has rewritten the Colonial record books in her three seasons with the program. The junior captain holds the top spot in goals (21), assists (21), and points (63).
  • RMU had four players named to the All-MAAC Second Team this season – the most the team has ever had honored.  Jess Martin-Brown made it as a forward, and Jamie Hartley was selected to her third overall all-conference team as a midfielder. McIlwaine and fellow freshman Simone Bindels (Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, NLD / Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer) were also selected as defenders.
