Four Colonials Named to All-MAAC Team

Robert Morris also tied for the most selections on the MAAC All-Academic Team

Moon Township, Pa. – Following a regular season that saw the Robert Morris University field hockey team break new ground as a program, four Colonials were honored on the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Second Team at the conference's awards banquet tonight.

The four all-conference selections are the most in program history, surpassing the three selections from 2011.

In addition, RMU tied with Quinnipiac for the most selections on the MAAC All-Academic Team. The Colonials had 13 players honored for their academic achievements.

Sophomore Jess Martin-Brown (Mount Gambier, Australia / University of Adelaide) is one of three forwards named to the All-MAAC Second Team. After a record-breaking freshman campaign that saw her set a new single-season goals record, Martin-Brown has proven this year that her initial success isn't a fluke. The forward has scored eight goals and tallied two assists in 15 games, and leads the team with three game-winning goals. Martin-Brown also has posted the best shooting percentage among her Colonial teammates, clocking in with a mark of .308.

Junior midfielder Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) makes her third postseason all-conference team, as she was an All-Northeast Conference (NEC) Second Team member in her first two seasons. The captain, who is one of four RMU players to start every game this season, leads the Colonials in points (21) for the third consecutive year, and also paces the team in assists (7). On Sept. 6, Hartley scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory at Ball State, breaking the school record for most career goals. She's since put her name on top of the assist record book, and has the top spot in all three scoring categories (goals, assists, points) with respective marks of 21, 21, and 63.

After tying Martin-Brown's single-season school record for goals, freshman Chloe McIlwaine (Belfast, Ireland / Northumbria University) was named to the All-MAAC Second Team. McIlwaine has scored nine times in 16 games for RMU, and also has an assist to her record for a total of 19 points. The forward/defender has made teams pay when she has stepped to the penalty stroke line, as she's converted both of her opportunities. McIlwaine's shot percentage of .257 is good enough for second on the team.

McIlwaine's classmate, Simone Bindels (Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, NLD / Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer), also has earned All-MAAC Second Team honors following a stellar freshman campaign. Bindels assisted on four goals, but did most of her work on the defensive side of the field. The Colonials rank tied for fourth in the nation in shutouts per game (0.41) and RMU goalkeepers have only faced a total of 99 shots this season – both of which can be contributed to Bindels' presence on the Colonial backend.

Hartley and Martin-Brown were two of 13 RMU student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Below is a list of all of the Colonials honored by the MAAC for their performance in the classroom:
