Box Score St. Cloud, Minn. - Through 65:00 minutes of play the Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team held on to preserve a 3-3 tie against St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn. The Colonials were led by sophomore captain Kristen Miles (London, Ontario / London Devillettes) erupting in the second period with a two-goal performance.
Robert Morris caused the first damage taking an early 1-0 lead off of a power-play goal from sophomore Alissa Dorman (Madison, Wisc. / Madison Capitals) at the 16:27 mark. This was Colonials first goal of the season with assists accredited to junior Maria Olausson (Copenhagen, Denmark / Danish National Team) and freshman Jacki Gibson (Burlington, Ont. / Burlington Barracudas). Less than a minute later the Huskies scored on a goal from sophomore Sammy Nixon to tie the game at one a piece.
In the second period Robert Morris struck again first to regain the lead with a goal from captain Kristen Miles off of an assist from freshman Chelsea Walkland (Pittsford, N.Y. / Rochester Edge) at 4:40. Seven minutes later Miles found the back of the net again on an unassisted goal to give the Colonials a 3-1 lead and Miles her first multi-goal game of the year. St. Cloud State wouldn't give up that easy scoring back-to-back goals over a two-minute span at 13:32 and 14:49 locking up the score at 3-3, which would hold out for the rest of the game.
The Colonials played a near-perfect game in terms of penalties only committing one in the first period.
St. Cloud State out-shot Robert Morris 46-17, while sophomore Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield, Oh. / Ohio Flames) made 43 saves on the afternoon and recorded the tie in net.
Robert Morris travels to Mankato, Minn. to take on Minnesota State Sunday October 1 at 8:07 p.m. eastern as they wrap up their weekend road trip.
