Moon Township, Pa. - Senior goaltender Joe Tuset (Eagan, Minn. / Western Michigan University) was named the College Hockey America Defensive Player of the Week after backstopping the men's hockey team to the biggest upset in athletics history. The Colonials, now 7-10-1 on the season, upset the second-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 4-2, Sunday afternoon after losing to the Irish, 6-2, at the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase at Mellon Arena Friday night.
Tuset stopped 34 shots in his fourth start of the season and seventh of his career. The senior netminder turned away 25 of 27 shots in the first two periods and shutout the Fighting Irish over the final 32:39 to run his record to 2-2 on the year. In his last two starts, Tuset has allowed just two goals while making 63 saves, including a 29-save shutout of Merrimack. He has a .969 save percentage in those two games.
Robert Morris fell behind, 2-0, in Sunday's game before scoring four unanswered goals, including three in the third period, to defeat Notre Dame (17-4-1). Four different players ? juniors Jeff Gilbert (Barrie, Ontario / Aurora Tigers), David Boguslawski (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Tri-City Storm), sophomore Jason Towsley (Lasalle, Ontario / Leamington Flyers) and senior Doug Conley (East Amherst, Mass. / Tri-City Storm) ? had goals for the Colonials.
The Colonials return to CHA action with a two-game set at Ala.-Huntsville this weekend. The series opens, Friday, January 12, with a 7:05 p.m. game at the Von Braun Center.
