Clarkson Trips Up Robert Morris 1-0

Box Score

Pittsburgh, Pa. ? Unlike Friday night's game, the Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team couldn't connect on a late rally to defeat Clarkson as the Golden Knights skated away with the 1-0 victory and a split of the two-game series at the RMU Island Sports Center Saturday afternoon.

Junior Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) was just sensational in her fifth appearance of the season for the Colonials (1-4-0), playing 58:46 and making 29 saves.

In a penalty-laden game with both teams combining for a 0-15 mark on the power-play, it only took one even strength goal early in the third period to break the ice.

Clarkson's Melissa Waldie became the hero for the Golden Knights when she put away her fourth goal of the season 2:52 into the third period. Waldie connected off of a pass from teammate Katie Morrison in front of the net to beat McLaughlin stick side for the score.

Clarkson held the advantage in shots, 30-11, while both teams' defenses played especially tough on the power-play with CU going 0-9 and RMU, 0-6.

Robert Morris has a tough task ahead of them as they prepare to host St. Cloud State for a two-game series this weekend at the RMU Island Sports Center. St. Cloud enters into the series fresh off an upset of the #1-ranked and two-time defending national champion Wisconsin, 2-1, this past Friday night. Both the Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday Oct. 27 games are scheduled for 3:05 p.m. face-offs with Saturday marked as the Colonials' Skate for the Cure game.
