Field Hockey Downs Bellarmine, 3-1

Greensburg, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University field hockey team, led by a pair of senior Gwen Dalphon (Elkton, Md. / Bohemian Manor) goals, defeated Bellarmine (7-6), 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Seton Hill University. With the victory, the Colonials are now 3-10 on the season.

 

Kayleigh Campbell (Dauphin, Pa. / Central Dauphin) opened the scoring for the Colonials with only 4:30 remaining in the first half. Campbell got behind a pair of Bellarmine defenders be receiving a pass from Shawna Kushner (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) and pushed the ball behind goalkeeper Kristina Thomas.

 

Dalphon scored what would be the game-winner10:48 into the second half. The goal came off a pass from freshman Catherine Myrick (Twin Valley, Pa. / Twin Valley). Jourdan Hubbuch broke junior goalkeeper Shannon Bires's (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) shutout bid 15 minutes before the final buzzer, but Dalphon scored her second goal of the game and third of the season, just over 10 minutes later giving RMU a, 3-1, victory.

 

Bires stopped 5-of-6 shots she faced, while Bellarmine keeper, Thomas made seven saves on ten shots.

 

The Colonials out shot Bellarmine, 14-9, and held a, 10-9, advantage in penalty corners.

 

RMU returns to action Friday, October 12 as they travel to Hamden, Conn. to take on Quinnipiac. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.

 

Notes: With a pair of goals, Gwen Dalphon tied the RMU single game record for most goals and points in a game. Both Jillian Howley (10/22/2006 vs. Siena) and Shawna Kushner (9/8/2007 vs. Mercyhurst) tallied two goals in one game prior to Saturday's contest against Bellarmine.
