#1 Wisconsin Pins 3-1 Setback on Colonials, Sweeps Series

Madison, Wisc. ? Sophomore Mallory Giambra (Rochester, N.Y. / Rochester Edge) scored the first goal of the season for the Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team in their 3-1 defeat against the #1-ranked and two-time defending national champion Wisconsin, Saturday night at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisc.

Giambra's goal came late in the third period when the Colonials (0-3-0) went on their fifth of six power-plays of the game. Closing in near the blue-line, Giambra sent a slap-shot past Wisconsin's net-minder Jessie Vetter at the 16:14 mark. Assists were credited to Sophomore Jessica Riley (Hamilton, Ontario / Stoney Creek Sabres) and Junior Alissa Dorman (Madison, Wisc. / Madison Capitals).

The goal allowed by the Badgers was their first in over 236 minutes of play dating back to their 4-1 national championship victory over Minnesota-Duluth on March 18, 2007.

For the game, Robert Morris displayed another tough performance against the #1 Badgers, holding them to three goals for the game. Wisconsin built their lead over the game with two scores coming in the first period and one in the second while holding them scoreless in the third.

Junior Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) was sensational again, making 41 saves on 44 shots and allowing only three goals for the third game in a row.

RMU was out-shot, 44-14 while converting one of their six power-play opportunities for the game.

The Colonials take the next weekend off as they prepare for a two-game series against Clarkson on Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20 at the RMU Island Sports Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Face-off for Friday's game is scheduled for 7:35 p.m., while Saturday's is at 2:05 p.m.
