Box Score

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Sophomores Kathryn Traynor (Toronto, Ont. / Toronto Jr. Aeros) and Morgan Beikirch (Livonia, N.Y. / Syracuse Stars) tallied goals for the Robert Morris University women's ice hockey team, but it wasn't enough as the # 2 Mercyhurst Lakers defeated the Colonials, 5-2, in the semifinals of the College Hockey America Championship Tournament. Robert Morris wraps up their year finishing with an 11-22-2 mark, while the Lakers move on to the CHA Championship tomorrow against Detroit native Wayne State for a 4:00 p.m. showdown.

The Colonials fell behind early as the Lakers went on to take a commanding 3-0 lead to open up the game.

Traynor slapped in a rebound on a second-chance opportunity to give the Colonials their first goal against the Lakers this season. The tally was her third of the season coming on the power-play at 15:34. Sophomores Ali Proodian (Canton, Mich. / Honeybaked U-19) and Samantha Ullrich (St. Louis, Mo. / Team Illinois U-19) were credited with the assists.

The 3-1 score carried over to the second period where both teams would play a defensive battle. Former CHA Player of the Year Valerie Chouinard was the only skater to find the back of the net in the stanza, giving the Lakers a 4-1 edge going into the third period.

Robert Morris found there last offensive spark of the game early in the period. Beikirch took a pass on the left side of the net from Sophomore Kristen Miles (London, Ont. / London Devillettes), flipping the puck over Mercyhurst goaltender Laura Hosier's shoulder for her 11th of the season on the power-play. With the assist, Miles finished the season as the Colonials top point scorer with 24.

The score cut the lead to two with over 11 minutes to play, but it wasn't enough as freshman phenom Meghan Agosta put any hopes of a comeback on ice tallying her second goal of the game to earn her team the victory and a spot in tomorrows College Hockey America Championship.

Mercyhurst out-shot Robert Morris 44-12 in the game, while both teams found success on the power-play, each scoring two goals.

Sophomore Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Oh. / Ohio Flames) finished the game making 39 saves.
