Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's tennis team notched back-to-back wins for the first time on the 2006-07 campaign Sunday and in the process improved to 3-1 in Northeast Conference dual match action with a 5-0 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.). The match, moved indoors due to inclement weather, was played to result due to time constraints. The victory improves RMU to 3-17 overall on the season.
The Colonials claimed victory in the match thanks to wins at each of the first four singles flights as well as a clean sweep of doubles action by the score of 8-0. At the No. 1 singles flight, sophomore Kali Delorie (Canonsburg, Pa. / Peters Township) nailed downed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Daniella Sanderson, while sophomore Libby Shaw (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) notched a 6-2 and 6-4 win over Enisa Derkovic. Freshman Hilary Newman (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk) kept the trend of winning going for RMU with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Catherine Drakakis, while senior Katie Skopinski (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver) also garnered a 6-0, 6-0 victory, downing Katie Eiden at the No. 4 singles flight.
Delorie and Shaw teamed up at No. 1 doubles to garner and 8-0 victory, and they were followed by junior Katie Kravits (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson) and Skopinski and Newman and junior Shelby Schmidt (Baden, Pa. / Ambridge) in also claiming perfect 8-0 wins in doubles.
Robert Morris closes out its 2006-07 regular season this week, hosting Mount St. Mary's at the North Athletic Complex Thursday, April 5, before welcoming Akron Saturday, April 7.
