Men's Golf Finishes Sixth At NEC Championships

Sunset Beach, N.C. / Sea Trail Resort - Byrd -- Robert Morris University finished sixth at the 10-team Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championships, hosted at the Sea Trail Resort Byrd Course in Sunset Beach, N.C. The Colonials were fifth after the first round and third after the second day before slipping to a sixth-place finish.

Robert Morris opened the tournament with a 306 in the opening round before rebounding to fire the second lowest team score of the tournament, a 296, to move into third place after the second day. Only Central Connecticut State with a 294 in the second round bested the Colonials day two performance. Howeverl, the Colonials dropped 20 strokes in the final round for a 316, and a 918 three-round total.

Monmouth University claimed the team title with a 902 total, one stroke ahead of seocnd place Saint Francis (Pa.). CCSU was third (908) followed by Long Island (911), Sacred Heart (913), Robert Morris (918), Mount St. Mary's (922), Quinnipiac (935), Fairleigh Dickinson (936) and Wagner (970).

Long Island's Patrick Kelly took medalist honors with round of 72-71-74=217 (+1), edging Monmouth's Anthony Campanile who fired a tournament-best 68 (-4) in the final round to finish at 218 (+2).

Junior Jimmy Tomaseski (Clifton, Va. / Centreville) had the best showing for Robert Morris, tying 16th with rounds of 78-72-79=229 (+13). Senior Jon Fiedler (Carnegie, Pa. / Carlynton) and junior John DeRoy (Powell, Ohio / Olentangy) were one stroke back with 230 totals. Fiedler carded 76-73-81 while DeRoy fired rounds of 75-78-77 as they tied for 19th.

Sophomore Adam Farry (Fairfax, Va. / James W. Robinson) tied for 26th (77-77-79=233) and sophomore Shane Brant (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) tied for 30th (79-74-82=235).
