Moon Township, Pa. ? Former Robert Morris University men's ice hockey forward Aaron Clarke (Peterborough, Ontario / Niagara University) has signed a contract to play the 2007-08 season with ECHL member Wheeling. The Nailers are the “AA” affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. Clarke joins former Colonials Kurt Wright and Doug Conley as the only Colonials to sign a professional contract.
“Speed is my thing. I am not the biggest guy,” said Clarke. “I can score but I am more of a guy to setup other guys and if I have to, I am not afraid to drop the gloves.”
Clarke played two seasons in a Colonial uniform, tallying 44 points, including 16 goals and 28 assists. Last season with RMU, he led the team with 25 assists. Clarke also finished second on the team with 36 points and third with 11 goals. For his efforts last season, Clarke became the first men's ice hockey player to be named all-CHA.
"Aaron was a very good Colonial hockey player," said RMU head coach Derek Schooley. "I am very proud of Aaron and what a good leader he was at RMU. I believe he will develop into a good professional hockey player."
The Colonials finished least season with an overall record of 14-19-2, including a 9-10-1 mark in conference play.
