Field Hockey Falls to Monmouth in Hard Fought Match

Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University field hockey team fell to Monmouth, 3-1, Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Colonials to 2-9 on the season, including 0-4 in Northeast Conference play.

 

Freshman Jade Roberts (Picton, Australia / Elderslie High) notched her first career goal 62:35 into the match off of a penalty corner. Freshman Courtney Bertolone (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) picked up the assist on the play, giving RMU a, 1-0, lead.

 

Roberts's goal started a span of four goals in 4:10, unfortunately for the Colonials the other three goals were scored by Monmouth. Annie Lopresti, Morgan Firmstone and Hollee Hooven all scored for the Hawks, giving them a, 3-1 victory.

 

Senior goalkeeper Kate Dunlap (Centerport, Pa. / Schuylkill Valley) made seven saves on 10 shots for the Colonials, while Monmouth goalkeeper Melissa Katz made one save on two shots.

 

Monmouth held the edge in penalty corners, 13-6, and shots on goal, 10-2.

 

The Colonials are next in action Friday, October 5 when they travel to Towson for a 3:00 p.m. match.
