RMU Falls at Niagara, 7-2

Niagara University, N.Y. ? The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team watched its four-game unbeaten streak come to an end after a, 7-2, defeat by College Hockey America opponent Niagara. With the loss RMU is now 9-8-2 overall and 4-2-1 in CHA action. The Purple Eagles improve to 11-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the CHA.

Ted Cook opened the scoring for the Purple Eagles just 1:03 into the first session, giving them an early, 1-0, lead. The Colonials struck back and took their only lead of the game with a pair of goals by Nathan Longpre (Peterborough, Ontario / Mahoning Valley Phantoms) at the 6:15 mark and David Boguslawski (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Tri-City Storm) at the 19:01 mark of the first period giving the Colonials a, 2-1, lead. Jason Towsley (La Salle, Ontario / Leamington Flyers) and Denny Urban (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ohio Blue Jackets) tallied assists on Longpre's fifth goal of the season, while Chris Margott (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Bay State Breakers) and Ryan Cruthers (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Army) dished out assists on Boguslawski's sixth goal of the season.

The Purple Eagles went on to score six unanswered goals including four second period goals from Matt Caruana, David Ross, Chris Moran and a second goal by Caruana with just 55 seconds left in the period. Cook added his second goal of the game with 5:11 left in regulation giving the Purple Eagles a, 7-2, victory.

Senior goalie Christian Boucher (Orleans, Ontario / Cumberland Grads) took the loss allowing five goals on 26 shots, while Jim Patterson (Kamloops, B.C. /  Canmore Eagles) played the final 20:55 of the game allowing a pair of goals on seven shots. Juliano Pagliero allowed both Colonial goals while stopping six shots before being pulled for Adam Avramenko who stopped all 17 shots he faced.

The Colonials were outshot 33-25 and went 0-for-3 on the power-play. Niagara converted on three of its five power-play chances.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night, at 7:00 p.m., closing out their two-game series at Dwyer Arena.
