Box Score - Siena vs. RMU (10/10/08

Moon Township, Pa. ? On Friday afternoon the Robert Morris University field hockey team defeated NEC rival Siena, 3-1, to record its fourth victory of the season. This is the first time in Colonial field hockey history when RMU has achieved a four-win season, and with the victory the program improves to 4-8 overall, including 1-1 in league action.

The Colonials got off to a quick start, taking seven shots and four corners in just the first 10 minutes. However, it was the Saints who struck first in the first period. Siena's Lisa Heimerle passed to Jenn Recih, who was able to sneak the ball behind Colonial goaltender Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard) to make the score 1-0 with just four minutes left in the half.

Although Siena took a 1-0 lead into the break, Robert Morris outshot Siena, 11-1, and had five corners in the first 35 minutes of play.

The Saints, who dropped to 0-10 on the 2008 campaign, could not hold off the barrage of Colonial shots at the start of the second period. They finally gave way when Chantele Crow (Dauphin, Pa. / Central Dauphin) connected with Jessica Charles (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) to tie the game, 1-1.

Just six minutes later the Colonials were given another scoring opportunity when senior Sam Lawless (St. Louis, Mo. / Lafayette) took out their third corner of the second half. Maddy Carroll (Birdsboro, Pa. / Twin Valley) was able to stop the corner pass and send it across the arc to Charles. Charles then took a hard shot over the shoulder of Siena's goalkeeper Renee Clavette to make the score 2-1 and tally her second score of the game.

Robert Morris struck for the third time with three minutes remaining in the game as freshman Ally McGuire (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) netted her first colligate goal off an assist from Sam Lawless (St. Louis Mo. / Lafayette).

On Sunday, October 12, Robert Morris will travel to take on Lock Haven at 1:00 p.m. in another NEC match up.
