Box Score Rochester, N.Y. ? Oct. 31, 2008 ? In a very close contest, the Robert Morris Colonials led by third-year head coach Nate Handrahan fell to the RIT Tigers Friday afternoon at the Ritter Arena, 2-1. The Colonials and the Tigers were knotted throughout the end of the first period and all through the second, but the Tigers were able to take advantage of a power-play opportunity in the third period for the win.
RIT started things off early in the first period, with Traci Galbraith scoring the first goal for the Tigers at 4:02 during a power-play opportunity. As the first period came to a close, junior Jordan Riley (Hamilton, Ontario / Stoney Creek Sabres) was able to slip a puck past RIT netminder Sandra Grant to tie things up at 1-1 going into the second period. Alissa Dorman (Madison, Wisc. / Madison Capitals) added the assist. The goal marks Riley's first of the season and the assist marks Dorman's first point of the season.
Despite outshooting the Tigers 10-3, the Colonials were only able to get one goal out of the first period. Robert Morris sophomore goalie Daneca Butterfield (Kronau, Saskatchewan / Notre Dame Hounds) made two saves, while Grant made one.
The Colonials again outshot the Tigers in the second period 11 to eight, but neither squad was able to connect leaving the score 1-1 going into the third period. Butterfield made eight saves to Grant's 11.
Both teams battled back and forth throughout the third period, making it very difficult for either team to make a score. However, RIT was able to earn a lucky bounce at 11:51 in the third period during a power-play advantage when Missy Hall netted the game-winning goal for the Tigers.
Robert Morris led in faceoff's winning 46 of the 70 contests and also led in shots, triggering off 30 to RIT's 17. RIT connected on two of six power-play opportunities, while Robert Morris was 0-7. Butterfield ended the contest with 15 saves, while Grant stopped 29 pucks.
