Colonials Overpower Pioneers in 8-1 Conquest

12 different Colonials contributed points in the win

Bridgeport, Conn. – Dec. 16, 2008 – The Robert Morris University women's hockey team received contributions from 12 different Colonials en route to an overwhelming 8-1 victory against the Sacred Heart Pioneers in Connecticut on Tuesday evening. Robert Morris improves to 8-8-1, while the Pioneers drop to 4-7-0. Sophomore Sara O'Malley (Guelph, Ontario / Hamilton Hawks) led the way for the Colonials with one goal and two assists.

The Colonials dominated the game from the very beginning earning four goals in period one alone. O'Malley got things started for the Colonials with a goal at 7:36. Freshman Brianna Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / NCCP Raiders)and senior Kristen Miles (London, Ontario / London Devillettes) assisted on the play. Two minutes later, the Colonials struck again when senior Alissa Dorman (Madison, Wisc. / Madison Capitals) found the net for her first score of the season, with senior Morgan Beikirch (Livonia, N.Y. / Syracuse Stars) and Sophomore Maria Stoa (Bloomington, Minn. / Eden Prairie)adding the helpers.

Sophomores Whitney Pappas (Evergreen, Co. / Belle Tire)and Kylie Rossler (Regina, Saskatchewan / Regina Rebels) ended the first period with one goal apiece at the end of the first. O'Malley, Delaney and junior Chelsea Walkland (Pittsford, N.Y. / Rochester Edge)contributed assists on the play.

Sacred Heart stepped up in the second period and held the Colonials scoreless, while also adding a goal of its own. Taryn LaPierre struck the net at 19:28 to close in on the Colonials four goal lead.

Robert Morris regained their scoring stride in the third period. Senior Kathryn Traynor (Toronto, Ontario / Toronto Jr. Aeros) scored the Colonials' fifth goal when she beat Pioneer goalie Amanda Nagel at 2:03, with Junior Jordan Riley (Hamilton, Ontario / Stoney Creek Sabres) adding the assist.

Jo. Riley recorded her second straight assist when she passed the puck to junior Jessica Riley (Hamilton, Ontario / Stoney Creek Sabres), who slipped the puck in for the score at 8:55. One minute later Dorman took the biscuit from O'Malley and scored her second goal of the game. Beikirch finalized the score, 8-1, when she snuck the puck in the net for an unassisted score at 11:35.

Senior goalie Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Ohio / Ohio Flames) tallied 20 saves in the win with a .950 saving average. The Colonials executed on 1-4 power-play opportunities, while Sacred Heart was 0-2.

The Colonials will look for their fourth consecutive win tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m., when they face the Pioneers in the second game of the series.
