Colonials Ninth At First Spring Event

Indianopolis, Ind. / Prestwick C.C. - Tough conditions courted the Robert Morris University men's golf team in its first tournament of the spring, a ninth-place finishe at the Butler Spring Invitational. Cold temperatures, rain, wind and hail were all factors as the Colonials shot a team total of 646, tying Butler for ninth place in teh nine-team tournament.

University of Evansville won the tournament, led by medalist Kyle Reddington, with a total of 609, beating Cleveland State and the University of Indianpolis by three strokes. Reddington finished with a total eof 145 after rounds of 71 and 74 on the 6,885-yard, par 72 layout at Prestwick Country Club. IUPUI was fourth (626) followed by Cincinnati (631), Oakland (635), IPFW (635), Wisconsin-Green Bay (643) and Butler and Robert Morris (646).

Freshman C.G. Mercatoris (Brookville, Pa. / Brookville) and senior Jimmy Tomaseski (Clifton, Va. / Centreville) topped the team and tied for 23rd with two-round totals of 159. Mercatoris shot rounds of 79-80 while Tomaseski carded scores of 82 and 77.

Sophomore Joe Kabana (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Notre Dame) tied for 39th (79-84=163) and junior Joe Horvat (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) tied for 50th (89-77=166).
