Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's tennis team split a pair of matches in its final tuneup for the Northeast Conference championships this weekend, dropping a 7-0 decision at Lehigh Wednesday afternoon before rebounding to a post a 6-0 victory over Northeast Conference foe St. Francis (N.Y.) Thursday afternoon in Princeton, N.J.
Against the Terriers, RMU garnered the win thanks to victories in each of the six singles contest. Doubles play was not contested.
Junior Kali Delorie (Canonsburg, Pa. / Peters Township) opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Tara Garone at the No. 1 flight, and she was followed by senior Libby Shaw (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell), who swept Jenna Charles at the No. 2 flight, 6-0 and 6-0.
Freshman Sara Meier (Saint Mary's, Pa. / Elk County Christian) followed by garnering a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Cathy Drakakis at the No. 3 flight.
At the No. 4 singles flight, senior Gwen Dalphon (Elkton, Md. / Bohemia Manor) defeated Angel Lawrence, 6-1 and 6-2, while sophomore Emily Himmel (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) garnered a 6-1 and 6-3 win over Kerri-Ann Sarjeant. Junior Sam Lawless (St. Louis, Mo. / Lafayette) helped the Colonials sweep singles action by earning a victory thanks to a default at the No. 6 singles.
Robert Morris now gears up for the 2008 Northeast Conference championships, which will be held April 18-20 in Princeton, N.J.
