Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - Senior Sam Lawless (St. Louis, Mo. / Lafayette) led the Colonials with two shots as the Robert Morris University field hockey team was handed its first loss of the 2008 season Friday afternoon, 2-0, to Towson at Joe Walton Stadium. The Towson offense, led by senior Stephanie Kisic, got out to a quick start as she scored her first goal of the season at the 6:12 mark.
Robert Morris held Towson scoreless for the remainder of the first half, as the Colonials held strong on defense. Another goal would not be scored until late in the second period.
The start of the second half was dominated with solid defensive efforts by both teams. Midway through the second period, Robert Morris threatened to score when the ball deflected off the stick of Lawless, just missing the left side of the cage. With just six minutes remaining, Towson's Kristie Blumer netted a rebound off the post to make the score 2-0.
In her first colligate start, Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard) faced five shots and made three saves. Maddy Carroll (Birdsboro, Pa. / Twin Valley) and Mary Kate Egan (Lynch, Md. / Kent County) also added to their career totals, taking one shot a piece.
The Colonials will continue their busy schedule to open the 2008 campaign Saturday, August 30, when they host Appalachian State at 10:30 a.m. at Walton Stadium.
