Missouri State Edges Robert Morris, 2-1, in OT

Moon Township, Pa. - For the second game in a row, the Robert Morris University field hockey team has forced its opponent into overtime play. Led by solid defense, the Colonials made the score 1-1 late in the second half, but fell in sudden death overtime.

The first half was marked by strong defensive play, as each team held the other scoreless.  However, Missouri State got out to a quick start in the second period when Melissa Lantz broke through to make the score 1-0 in favor of the bears.  Two minutes later, the Colonials would answer when Sam Lawless (St. Louis, Mo. / Lafayette) passed to Julie Gabriel (Kraainem, Belgium / Lycee Emil Jacqmain) tying the score a one.

The Colonials threatened several times late in the second half, but each time they came up empty handed.  At the conclusion of regulation with the score tied at one, the game advanced into a ten-minute sudden death overtime.

Missouri State took control from the start, immediately putting pressure on the Robert Morris defense.  Just over one minute into the overtime period, Melissa Lantz found Alyssa Hile to score the game winning goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard) faced eight shots and made three saves.  Both Robert Morris and Missouri State made eight shot attempts, but six of the Colonial's shots came in the second period.

The Colonials wills travel to Philadelphia,  Pa. next Sunday to take on LaSalle (1-1) at DeVincent Field at 11:30 a.m.
