Moon Township, Pa. - On a cool and rainy afternoon, the Robert Morris University field hockey team was unable to overcome both the weather and an aggressive Radford team as the Colonials dropped a 3-0 decision to the Highlanders at Joe Walton Stadium.
Twelve minutes into the first period, Radford's Lara Cariker found the back of the net from off a penalty corner from Holly LoJacano to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Highlanders.
In the first period, the Colonials were held scoreless and were unable to put a shot on net. However, Radford took eight shots, while Robert Morris goalkeeper Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard) made two saves.
The second half got off to a slow start, but Radford was able to strike again when Lara Cariker connected with Madonna Wadolwski to extend the Highlander's lead to 2-0. At the 8:50 mark of the second period, Radford's Stephanie McLamb assisted Holly LoJacono as she picked up her first goal of the season to extend the Highlander's lead to the final score of 3-0.
Overall, the Colonials were kept both scoreless and without a shot on goal by a strong Radford defense. The Highlanders were awarded 11 penalty corners while the Colonials had two.
On Sunday, September 14, the Bryant Bulldogs will visit to take on the Colonials at Joe Walton Stadium at noon.
