Box Score Moon Township, Pa. ? After a sluggish start early in the first period, the Robert Morris University field hockey team was able to bounce back and defeat Bryant, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.
Five minutes into the first period, Bryant's Alexandra Czerniak struck first to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Colonials then jump started their offensive effort as they tallied three shots on goal in the next 10 minutes. Finally, at the 20-minute mark, Maddy Carroll (Birdsboro, Pa. / Twin Valley) found Jessica Charles (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) to tie the game, 1-1.
Just a few minutes later the Bulldogs regained the lead when Tia Pydynkowki slipped one past Robert Morris goaltender Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard). However, Bryant's lead was short lived, as Sam Lawless (St. Louis, Mo. / Layfayette) scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Charles.
With the score tied, 2-2, the Colonials and Bryant were forced into overtime play. With only two minutes remaining in the extra period, Lawless broke away from her defender to sneak the winning score past Bryant's Jennifer Gullotti. Lawless now has nine points this season.
The Colonials will return to action Saturday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Chicago, Illinois, to play St. Louis in a neutral site match at Northwestern University at 1:00 p.m.
