Box Score
Philadelphia, Pa. - Short-handed and tied at one with just one minute and 27 seconds left in regulation, senior Sam Lawless (St. Louis, Mo. / Lafayette)Â Â was able to sneak past goalie, Emma Ruth, to push the Robert Morris University field hockey team over La Salle, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
For the first 66 minutes of play, each team was able to hold the other scoreless through a strong defensive effort. However, in the 67th minute, senior Mary Kate Egan (Lynch, Md. / Kent County)Â Â was given a green card for her elbow to La Salle's Maria Allegretto. La Salle was then awarded their first penalty stroke of the season and Allegretto converted her attempt to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Explorers.
Egan, forced to sit out the remainder of regulation, left the Colonials short-handed for the first time this year. But just one minute and 36 seconds later, junior Jessica Charles (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg)  netted her second goal of the year to tie the game at one. Just as play got underway again, Lawless picked up a rebound to push it past Ruth for the game winning score.
The Colonials are now 2-2 and will play Pacific University in a neutral site game at Kent State University on Monday, Sept. 8, at 3:00 p.m.
